Temporary/Seasonal Workers

The largest group of temporary workers is without a doubt the summer student. These young folks arrive to the worksite eager and ready to go, but are missing one crucial piece.  The widespread perception is that anyone can push a lawnmower or hold a weed trimmer – but can they do so safely and efficiently? Temporary/seasonal workers are one of the most neglected groups when it comes to receiving professional training.

The argument is that they won’t be around that long, so why waste the time or money.  The big problem there is that a workplace accident only takes a split second to occur.  Compared to months of paperwork, lost time and serious injuries the time required for proper training can be as little as a half day.  So why take a chance?  Part time and seasonal employees need training as much as full-time and permanent ones.  Who knows, they may just become one in the long run.
